Tesla’s record-breaking Model 3 sparks into action with 325,000 pre-orders
It's a live wire - will you switch to electric, too?
We thought 200,000 sales was insane. Now Tesla Motors has received a whopping 325,000 paid reservations for the Model 3, which means that the company will have approximately £10 billion to spend. Time for a bigger wallet.
The latest figures from the company make the Model 3 the biggest one-week launch of any product ever. Who ever thought that an electric car would hold that record?
Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously admitted that they’ll have to rethink production planning, so he’s bound to have more headaches after the latest figures. Poor him, eh?
With waiting times increasing at a ridiculous rate, however, it may be far into the future until many will actually get their hands on a Model 3. After all, first deliveries are set to start at the end of 2017, with a gradual ramp-up likely as they get the hang of production – and priority given to existing Model S and Model X owners.
While the first order came out of Australia, it looks like they’ll be near the bottom of a very large mailing list: initial deliveries will start in the States, expanding from the west coast to the east before eventually reaching other countries.
The Tesla team took a brief break from increasing production plans to say, “We want to thank everyone who has shown their faith in Tesla and the mission of electric vehicles.”
All interest in the car has been generated without the need for advertisements or paid endorsements, which is a pretty remarkable feat. It seems that people have suddenly decided to love electric cars – now that they’re more affordable, yet no less desirable.
