Tablets predicted to outsell notebooks by 2016
An iPad-led charge by touchscreen slates will surpass laptop sales within a few years, says research firm
While tablets are gaining in popularity, you’d still be hard-pressed to find someone who’d rather have one than a laptop. But that’s a changing trend, says research firm NPD DisplaySearch: they have forecasted that tablet shipments will outstrip notebook shipments by 2016.
Their report predicts that 416 million tablets will be shipped by 2017 (up from 121 million in 2012), while notebook shipments will rise from 208 million in 2012 to 393 million in 2017. Shipments of “mini-notes” (netbook-style PCs) are predicted to drop steadily.
