Sony reveals price and release date for its Internet Player with Google TV

The Japanese tech giant's Google box is ready to invade your living rooms with some Android goodness

Sony has announced that its NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV will be hitting shelves from July 16th.

Sony is the first manufacturer out of the US to dive into the Google TV pool, and its clever little box offers a whole host of features.

Powered by a modified version of Android Honeycomb, the Sony Internet Player will let telly addicts browse the web while watching television simultaneously, as well as providing access to YouTube and a whole host of apps from the Google Play Store.

With the included Google Chrome browser being touted as the best browser available for TV, we’re glad to see that Sony has included a remote worthy of this title.

A dual-sided affair, the remote features an honest-to-goodness touchpad for cursor control on one side, with a full back-lit qwerty keyboard on the other for an easy-to-use and seamless web surfing and telly watching experience.

It’s also a universal remote which can command your entire entertainment system, and it has a built in accelerometer which should give plenty of ideas for Android game developers to sink their teeth into.

You can pre-order the Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Player with Google TV from today, with an RRP of £200, and Sony also plans to release a Blu-ray player with the same functionality – the NSZ-GP9 – in October, for £280.

In the meantime, check out our hands on review of the Sony Internet Player with Google TV.
