Samsung Galaxy K Zoom with 20MP camera and 10x optical zoom will launch on 29 April

A cameraphone? Or a phonecamera? Either way, it'll put true zoom powers in your pocket

Samsung has outed an invitation to an event on 29 April for a device which is expected to be the latest addition to its Galaxy Zoom smartphone camera range.

‘Kapture the moment’ points to the rumoured Samsung Galaxy K Zoom – an Android smartphone which is expected to bring the fight straight to the likes of the Sony Xperia Z2 and Nokia Lumia 1020 with a 20MP sensor, Xenon flash and 10x optical zoom.

Unlike last year’s model the Galaxy S4 Zoom, Samsung has opted for a completely new naming scheme in the K Zoom, suggesting that it has little in common with the recently released Samsung Galaxy S5.

One look at a leaked photo of the Galaxy K Zoom shows that it lacks the dimpled plastic back of the Galaxy S5. Instead, it opts for a faux leather finish, somewhat similar to that of the Galaxy Note 3, but thankfully without the tacky fake stitching.

KZoom’s sources have previously told the site that the K Zoom will be noticeably thinner than the bulky Galaxy S4 Zoom and that the lens will be much better hidden.

Reported specs point to a 4.8in 720p display, 2GB of RAM and either a 1.3GHZ Samsung Exynos Hexa processor or a 1.6GHz quad-core offering.

That’s all we know for the time being, but we won’t have too long to wait until Samsung officially reveals all the details in Singapore.
