High-end home cinema receiver mastermind Onkyo is tempting all of us stereo-dependant DVD fans with a cunning blend of powerful audio magic with a piggy bank-friendly price tag.The LV-S501 packs together a receiver, amp with 2.1 channel speakers and a multi-talented DVD player. Available in black or silver, Onkyo’s LV-S501 supports HDMI input and output, it upscales to 720p/1080i, and packs a component video out and optical coaxial digital audio inputs. The DVD drive has big love for loads of formats, including DVD, CD, SACD and DVD-Audio disc, as well as WMA, JPEG picture and DivX discs. As if that wasn’t enough, it has a 100w subwoofer, with its speakers kicking out a healthy 2x50w. And if that’s too quiet for you noise junkies the LV-S501 is happy with full-range loudspeakers should you wish to remind the neighbours how much you like Die Hard. There’s also a version without speakers if you already have your own – the DR-S501.For £600 and £400 respectively, the spec on these DVD players seem too good to be true.
