More Samsung Galaxy Alpha photos and details leak; official reveal tomorrow?
Metal-framed handset seems like a flagship in some respects, but not others
Samsung promised a metal-clad phone, and last week, we got our first unofficial glance at the Galaxy Alpha. Now we have freshly leaked photos and info, and official word may be arriving with the daylight.
These new images from Hi-Tech@Mail.ru show a bit more of the curious hybrid build, which features a plastic backing said to be identical to the Galaxy S5’s, but with a metal band highlighted by chamfered edges like on the iPhone 5/5s.
Interestingly, the top screen shows AnTuTu benchmark results that place the Galaxy Alpha ahead of the HTC One (M8) and the Galaxy S5, which means this may well be one beast of a phone.
The most recent leak says it’ll feature an Exynos 5 Octa chipset with a processor that can hit 1.8Ghz and 2GB RAM bundled in, while a previous report claimed the Alpha would have an Exynos 5433 running the show. Either way, if the benchmark numbers are true, it’s got some serious horsepower.
And it has an ejectable nano SIM card slot, which sets it apart from previous Samsung devices. Elsewhere, the specs aren’t quite as astounding – like the 4.7in 720p display and the 12-megapixel back camera. And with that in mind, the rumoured price of €500-550 seems perhaps a tiny bit ambitious.
But we may get some clarity very quickly, as GSM Arena reports that the handset may be officially unveiled as quickly as tomorrow, 13 August. Stay tuned if the idea of a metal-lined Galaxy seems awfully appealing.
