Mars Curiosity Rover gets its own Lego set
And it’s designed by a former NASA man, no less!
Everyone’s favourite Mars-roving robot is about to be immortalised as a product by everyone’s favourite building block toy company.
Yes, Lego has announced that, from 1st January 2014, you’ll be able to buy a special set based on NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover. The 1:20 scale set even offers a similar rocking suspension setup to the real thing.

The project came about due to Lego’s Cuusoo site – a kind of Kickstarter for fan-designed sets. Projects posted here, should they gain enough users votes and survive a formal review by Lego, can go from being mere pipe dreams to actual products, and that’s what happened here: the project was submitted way back in 2011, and 10,000-odd votes later it’s going to be available for US$30 (£18).
Particularly interesting is the fact that the set’s designer, mechanical engineer Stephen Pakbaz, actually worked for NASA on the Curiosity project. So you know it’s going to be pretty accurate.
Come New Year’s Day, you’ll be able to purchase the set from Lego’s online store. And then explore your living room for signs of water.
