HTC teases the One M10, confirming design leak in the process
Well, at least we know for sure what the back looks like
HTC opted not to showcase a new flagship phone at MWC 2016, instead debuting some mid-range options and letting LG and Samsung fight it out for the show’s best. But now that the show is winding down, HTC is ready to pounce.
Today, HTC took to Twitter to offer what appears to be the first official tease for the HTC One M10, the company’s successor to last year’s HTC One M9. The HTC account tweeted what appears to be a silhouette of the rounded edge of a device, complete with the hashtag “#powerof10.”
It’s a fair way to get the conversation started, we suppose, but here’s the funny thing: the thin silhouette is a perfect match for a purported leaked image (below) of the One M10’s backing that appeared online a couple days ago, effectively confirming that leak. It affirms that the phone is very likely to have a chamfered edge all along its metal backing, with a camera lens right in the upper center.
And that’s not the only One M10 leak we’ve seen in recent weeks. Evan Blass has tweeted out a couple images of what he claims are the front of the phone, and both showcase an iPhone-esque device that’s very similar in form to the HTC One A9. And given his track record of leaking devices, including both the Galaxy S7 and G5, we have little reason to doubt him in this instance.
He also claims that the device, codenamed Perfume, will feature a 5.1in Quad HD (1440×2560) AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a microSD slot. It will also reportedly feature a 12-UltraPixel back camera, which another report said will be the same module seen on the Nexus 6P.
Further leaks have suggested that HTC will launch the phone at an event on 11 April, and Blass says the phone may debut in the U.S. during the week of 9 May – and other territories could see similar timing, certainly.
The LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 were big MWC standouts, but while HTC doesn’t want to launch its phone just yet, it seems like the company wants to at least be part of the conversation ’til then.
