eBay launches StubHub ticket service in the UK
Secondary ticketing marketplace will take on the likes of Seatwave and Viagogo. Here's what you need to know
eBay is bringing a new player to the secondary ticketing market – the online auction house owns StubHub, currently the largest ticket marketplace in the US, and is launching it in the UK today.
As The Guardian points out, StubHub and other secondary ticketing services like Seatwave and Viagogo are the subjects of controversy because they aid touts or “scalpers” – people that want to sell concert or event tickets at a profit – and take a commission into the bargain.
StubHub, however, claims to have higher customer satisfaction ratings than its competitors thanks to the likes of FanProtect, a refund-or-replace guarantee system designed to safeguard buyers against fake tickets and other dodgy practices.
You can take a look at the StubHub UK site today, where there are apparently around 140,000 tickets available, plus the company is also planning to open a bricks and mortar shop in London, where users will be able to pick up and drop off tickets.
To give you a taste of what to expect, you’ll pay at least £55 per ticket for Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne” tour – and some people are asking for £117.
