Dolby Atmos true surround sound is coming to Europe
Dolby's monster 64-speaker surround sound system is on its way – get ready to have your ears massaged by its audio goodness
Dolby’s true surround sound system, Dolby Atmos, is set to cross the Atlantic, hitting Europe later this year.
If you haven’t heard of Dolby Atmos – get it, heard – then prepare to have your ears tingle with excitement. It sends sound to 64 speakers – including overhead – to accurately map sound into exact locations, rather than just sending it to sections as current 7.1 surround does.
14 screens in the US are currently utilsing this super sound tech – and now The Cinesa Diagonal Mar Screen 9 event in Barcelona will see it land in Europe.
Luckily, you won’t have to book a ticket to Spain to hear this tech – it’s coming to the Empire Leicester Square in London, as well as a host of other locations, in the coming months. The first film to use Dolby Atmos will be Disney and Pixar’s Brave – time to book a trip into town with the kids, then.
There’s no word on whether Dolby Atmos tech will be making it into home cinema setups – if it ever does, no doubt the audiophiles over at What Hi-Fi will be weeping bitterly at the thought of having to install 64-speaker setups.
Check out how Dolby Atmos works in the video guide below.
