Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4
The Handsome Collection bundles both with split-screen play and save transfer, out this spring
Attention, Vault Hunters! Moved on to a new-gen console and sad that your favorite zany co-op shooter series didn’t with its last release? Well, fret no more, because Borderlands is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
2K Games and Gearbox just announced that Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will debut this spring, on 27 March (24 March in North America), for both platforms. It will deliver updated versions of both Borderlands 2 and last autumn’s Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – with all downloadable content bundled in.
The Pre-Sequel, developed primarily by 2K Australia with input from Gearbox, slid between the two main series entries, showcasing Handsome Jack’s development into an evil leader while introducing new low-gravity environments. It launched only for Xbox 360 and PS3, in addition to PC, but a new-gen appearance seemed inevitable.
Borderlands 2 is rather well-known, of course, seeing as it’s 2K’s best-selling game ever (and it got five stars from us). The cel-shaded, four-player shooter will be remastered – alongside The Pre-Sequel – to look crisper than ever on new consoles, plus you can transfer over saves from both games between Xbox 360-to-One and PlayStation 3-to-4 (also Vita-to-PS4 with Borderlands 2) to continue past adventures.
And there’s one more perk: both games have been outfitted with split-screen multiplayer for the first time, allowing four players to battle together for loot on the same screen. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is priced at US$60 (about £40), so expect the set to be priced the same as an average new-gen game in the UK.
Die-hard fans might want to consider the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition, however. Priced the same as a new console (US$400, which is about £260), the bundle adds a remote-controlled, one-wheeled Claptrap robot inspired by the game character, letting you use a smartphone app to guide him around.
He can apparently livestream video via his eye camera, as well as spout familiar catchphrases. It’ll be limited to just 5,000 units, but for serious aficionados, it sounds like one heck of a bonus.
