Assassin’s Creed Rogue to bridge timelines on Xbox 360 and PS3 this November

With Unity only on new-gen platforms, Ubisoft plots another ship-centric quest

Having seen Assassin’s Creed Unity in action, it’s quite clear that the game isn’t meant for aging hardware. However, it seemed unlikely that Ubisoft would totally abandon the huge fan base still rocking last-gen consoles.

That rumoured outcome proved true today, as the publisher announced Assassin’s Creed Rogue, an all-new entry exclusive to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that will launch on 11 November, just a couple of weeks after Unity hits stores.

Game Informer has the first official details on the game, and it appears that you’ll take the role of Shay Patrick Cormac, a former Assassin that became a Templar. It’s set during the Seven Years’ War and effectively fills the gap between the events of Assassin’s Creed III and last year’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Ultimately, it sounds like the latter will be a bigger influence, with plenty of ship combat in your vessel, The Morrigan, albeit in the frigid new setting of the North Atlantic. You’ll also visit the River Valley and New York along the way, and since the Seven Years’ War has significant historical ties to France, it’s hinted that the game will also tie into Unity in some fashion.

Both the standard and collector’s editions are available for pre-order, with the latter bundling in an artbook, three lithographs, the soundtrack CD, and a pair of exclusive single-player missions.
