Android Wear update will bring Apple Watch-like doodles and more to your wrist
Bring on the naughty sketches
Android Wear’s next major update will bring with it a host of new features, including one that’ll let users directly communicate from watch to watch.
Like the Apple Watch, this new Together feature will let you send messages and doodles directly to your Wear watch-wearing friends, and you can also send photos, emojis and ‘stickers’ too.
Annoyingly, it looks like it’ll only work with one watch face, and everyone will need to be rocking it if they want in on the messages.
A new single tap gesture will also be landing with the update, and it’ll be customisable with four different options to choose from.
You’ll be able to tap to cycle through information such as the weather and fitness information like calories burned and steps taken, along with the option to cycle through different colours. We presume the latter will probably only work with supported watch faces.
LG G Watch R owners will also be glad to hear that the update will also unlock its internal Wi-Fi capabilities, letting it join the ranks of other Android Wear watches that can receive messages directly through Wi-Fi, without having to rely on a direct Bluetooth connection to a handset.
There’s no official release date as of yet, which isn’t surprising given that this information was prematurely leaked to Phandroid. As always, we’ll be sure to let you know when an official date is set, which is expected to be at some point in August.
