Join the queue for Sky Q – 4K-ready set-top box on sale now

Get installed by the end of the month and you'll be ready for UHD when it arrives

Telly addicts can sign up for Sky Q right now – Sky opened up online sales today ahead of launch later this month.

The basic Sky Q box will set you back £42 per month, and can record three TV channels at once in 1080p on a 1TB hard disk – while you watch a fourth.

The 4K-ready Sky Q Silver box has a 2TB hard drive for recording up to four channels and watch a fifth live, but costs £54 per month. It plays nicely with Sky Q Mini boxes for multi-room viewing, too. Each one will set you back £99.

You’ll get a discount on installation if you have Sky Broadband, Sky Sports or Sky Movies when you order Sky Q, and existing customers automatically get the cheaper price. There’s still no word on whether 4K will cost extra, though; it won’t be ready at launch, but should be coming later in the year.

The new hardware is only half the story, though. Sky Q is getting a brand new UI that’s about a thousand times better than the old, cumbersome Sky Guide.

The new look interface puts images front and centre, with a cleaner look and less clutter onscreen at once to make it easier to find something to watch.

Sky Q is available to order online or over the phone today, but you’ll have to wait until the 12th before you’ll be able to wander into a store and speak to someone face-to-face.

Actual installs won’t begin until the end of the month.
