Barclaycard finally joins the Apple Pay party
Nine months later, Barclaycard customers can tap to pay for their Kinder eggs
Barclaycard was notably absent amongst the roster of major UK cards which committed to Apple Pay when it launched last July, but now Barclays has finally announced its support for Apple’s tap-to-pay service.
Until now, Barclay’s insisted on going it alone, with a series of stickers, keyring fobs and (in our opinion, ugly) plastic wristbands for customers to use for wireless payments. It was a bit of a convoluted solution, which is why we imagine that iThing-toting Barclay’s customers will be happy with this latest news.
The company already has its own Android app which lets users make contactless payments, which is the next best thing for UK Android owners ahead of Google Pay’s release at some point this year – a service which Barclaycard will presumably support at launch,
Back to the present however – Apple Pay currently works with the iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus, along with the Apple Watch, at over 400,000 locations in the UK, and all Barclaycard payments should work from today. Happy tapping.
