Sky is preparing to launch its online TV service over a range of internet-connected TVs and set-top boxes, following agreements with Cello and 3View.
Already available via your PC, Mac or Xbox 360, the service offers Sky customers another way of watching their subscription, while allowing new customers to access Sky without the need for a dish.
Cello’s iViewer connected TV launched last year as the first TV to stream BBC’s iPlayer without the need of a set top box. It’s now set to add Sky Player to its rosta, which users will be able to access via a wired Ethernet connection, or using a Wi-Fi dongle.
Owners of the world’s first connected Freeview HD PVR 3View, will also be able to get access to Sky’s online TV service directly through their box, bringing all of Sky’s content alongside that of Freeview HD.
Current subscribers will be able to access the packages they currently pay for (watching live requires a Multiroom subscription), as well as video on demand content, while new customers can set up new accounts from £15 a month to watch the channels they want – including Sky Sports.
We’ve chased Sky for when we can expect the service to launch on these products, and will report back when we get an answer.
