Ultimate setup: HTC One M9
The best cases, headphones, accessories and chargers for your shiny new handset
The HTC One M9 is currently sitting pretty at the top of Stuff’s top 10 smartphone list, and it could soon be nestled in your pocket too.
If there’s an M9 in your life then you’ll want to treat it to everything it deserves, so we’ve rounded up everything from cases to chargers to make sure it’s as comfortable, and as useful, as possible.
And if you want to know _why_ the M9 is so highly thought of round Stuff Towers, you’ll want to read our full HTC One M9 review too.
Orzly tempered glass screen protector (£7)
The M9 is a beautifully made piece of tech, and we won’t blame you if you decide not to cover it up. You will risk denting its gorgeous metal body by opting to live case-free though. Still, a few dings and scratches aren’t the end of the world. But screens? They just shatter and crack, taking your heart along with them.
We’ve tried a fair few plastic screen protectors over the years, and nothing beats tempered glass. It feels lovely and smooth beneath the fingertips thanks to an oleophobic coating (which also helps reduce smudges and fingerprints), and while it might still shatter if dropped, the original screen beneath will still be intact.
Case-Mate Barely There case (£15)
If you do want to give that all-aluminium body some protection though, we don’t blame you. This offering from Case-Mate should shield your M9 from most drops, and it’s thin enough to ensure that you won’t need to adjust your pockets at a tailor’s to accommodate its extra girth.
All the standard button cutouts are present and accounted for and the front lip is raised, letting you lay the M9 screen-down. Combined with a tempered glass screen protector, you should have the sleekest, hardest handset on the block.
SanDisk 128GB Class 10 microSD card (£70)
Yes, it’s £70 for a microSD card, but one look at that capacity should tell you all you need to know. Unlike its Galaxy S6 rival, the M9 has kept its expandable memory powers, and this capacious little fellow is a class 10, which means blistering transfer speeds of up to 48MBps.
A ten-year warranty and an SD adaptor are also included. Just try not to feel too bad about its US$400 200GB microSD brother that’s on its way.
OsoMount cradle (£18)
When was the last time you bought an issue of Sat Nav Weekly? The M9 in your pocket is automatically one of the best sat navs around. It’s easily the sexiest one in the world, it’s got a nice large 5in display to show off all directions, and its speakers are lovely and loud, without sounding like a Skrillex gig in a washing machine.
Snap up this sturdy mount which will gently cradle and secure your M9, and drive worry-free. It’s a lot better than using duct tape. Trust us.
1byone 4-port car charger (£13)
Using the M9 to navigate the M25 is all well and good, but it’ll be nothing more than a pretty-looking metal brick if its battery dies out. This adaptor lets you charge up to four devices at once, and its 9.6A and 48W specs mean that it’ll juice everything from iPads to handheld consoles nice and quickly too. That red and black paint job isn’t too bad either (and it just so happens to match the above cradle rather well).
HTC Dot View case for M9 (£30)
HTC’s official case is pricey, but it throws in a ton of useful and fun features, in addition to protecting both sides of the handset itself. Combined with the special Dot View app from the Play Store, the M9 is transformed into a rather adorable retro pixel screen which shows off missed call information, notifications and more, without you having to flip it open.
You can even use it to turn on the rear LED in flashlight mode, as well as answer or reject calls. Hell, you can even play games on it, if you want to. Innovation at its finest.
Monster PowerCard Turbo (£50)
While the M9’s design is sleek and sexy, it pays the price for it by not offering a removable battery. Power users who don’t want to find themselves in the lurch will definitely benefit from a portable microUSB charger, and the Monster PowerCard Turbo packs in enough juice for more than a complete single recharge. While you could get higher capacity chargers for the same money, the PowerCard is slim enough to slip into your pocket, and will nicely match the M9’s metal rear to boot.
SoundMagic E10s
HTC’s BoomSound speakers may be the best in the business, but there are times when you’ll want to keep your music to yourself. And for those times you’re going to want SoundMagic’s E10s headphones.
They feature a one-button remote for answering calls and a little switch on the 3.5mm plug which makes sure they work with all flavours of iPhone and Android device; we’ve not tried them with the HTC One M9 yet, but we’ve had a 100% success rate with other Androids.
Just as importantly, the sound quality is superb: smooth, well-judged bass and plenty of detail. And all for a mere £40.
Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay A2 Bluetooth speaker (£300)
A classy phone deserves a classy set of Bluetooth speakers, and Bang & Olufsen knows a thing or too about style. While the M9’s dual front-facing speakers are great by smartphone standards, they’re still not good enough to kickstart a house party. The stylish Bluetooth Beoplay A2 packs in 360 degrees of room-filling sound thanks to 180-watts of power, and it promises to keep blasting out those tunes for an impressive 24 hours – longer than we’d ever last on a dance floor.
Motorola Moto 360 (from £200)
The Moto 360 is one of the best looking Android Wear devices around, and you can pick and choose your straps and casing to match your M9, no matter what colour you’ve gone for. Android Wear beams everything from email, SMS and social media notifications, straight to your wrist, along with weather updates, music controls and navigation. It’s got a built-in heart rate monitor too, and if you’re not too embarrassed chatting to your watch, you can even use Google Now to dictate messages and search the web.
