Want a Star Wars phone? Custom Moto Maker designs for Droid Turbo 2 available tomorrow

The Verizon-exclusive model will have themes based on The Force Awakens

In the States, the Verizon-exclusive, Motorola-made Droid phone line licenses its name from Lucasfilm – so it makes sense that they’d take their partnership to the next level for some fresh Star Wars-themed smartphones.

The Droid Turbo 2 – known elsewhere in the world as the Moto X Force – will offer up five custom Moto Maker theme options based on next week’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with one skin each for some of the top characters from the film.

You’ll find a theme for Rey, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, a First Order Stormtrooper, and lovable rolling droid BB-8. Each has color accents that matches the character’s design or apparel, such as metallic orange on the otherwise all-white BB-8 theme, plus there’s an exclusive character wallpaper to match.

Now, the lingering question is this: will these customisations become available internationally for the Moto X Force, which has the same shatterproof screen, specs, and design? There’s no word on that, although we have to think Motorola would be passing up a significant chunk of change by keeping this exclusive to Verizon and the States. Then again, the Droid name could make that very likely.

It’s not the first Droid/droid collaboration: the keyboard-toting Droid 2 had a great R2-D2 edition a few years back, and these themes are notably subdued by comparison. Still, if you want an official Star Wars phone that isn’t half a decade old, this is your only option. The customisations will become available via Verizon tomorrow, and here’s hoping we have good news on the Moto X Force in the coming days.
