Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection remasters the trilogy for PlayStation 4
All three campaigns on your current-gen console this fall, plus Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta access
Long rumoured and then accidentally leaked by Sony overnight, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection has just been properly announced for PlayStation 4 – and it’s coming out later this year.
As expected, The Nathan Drake Collection compiles the single-player campaigns for the brilliant PlayStation 3 action-adventure trilogy: 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, 2009’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Naughty Dog developed the original entries, but the task of porting the games in a single package is being headed up by Bluepoint Games. Luckily, that studio has made a name for itself in the realm of remasters and tricky ports: it handled the God of War Collection and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, plus delivered a rather impressive Xbox 360 port of Titanfall last year.
The campaigns are being remastered to run at 60 frames per second in 1080p resolution on PlayStation 4, with improved lighting, models, and textures also coming along, as well as other unnamed improvements. Sadly, there’s no footage available now – just the teaser above. But we’ll surely see the game in action at E3 in less than two weeks.
However, the multiplayer elements of both Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 aren’t making the leap between consoles. But that shouldn’t be a big problem, as buying the Collection grants you access to the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer beta test whenever that ends up running – likely late this year or very early in 2016.
And with Uncharted 4 due out next spring, you’ll have another full-fledged adventure and online component to dig into once you clear the dozens of hours of action promised in this package. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection releases on 9 October in the UK and Ireland, and a couple days earlier (7 October) in the States.
