Audi reveals 50mph electric bike
Here's what you get when you combine the world's most powerful electric bike motor with precision German engineering
The Specialized Turbo is the fastest electric bike we’ve ever had the pleasure of gracing with our rears, but Audi looks set to change that with its recently unveiled electric bike.
The Audi e-bike Wörthersee (as reported by Engadget) packs in a powerful 2.3kW motor, which is the largest offering in an electric bike so far, enabling riders to cruise along at a staggering 50mph.
That’s a whole 20mph faster than the 30mph-capable Specialized Turbo that we were lucky enough to exclusively preview, and you can even use the extra grunt in Audi’s two-wheeled beast to perform wheelies with ease.
The Audi e-bike Wörthersee can even communicate with your smartphone, which can disable the immobiliser as an extra security measure, as well as recording shareable points for successfully completed tricks and challenges with your social network followers.
The battery’s 6kg weight is negated by a lightweight 1.6kg carbon fibre frame and a speedy 2.5 hour charge time nicely tops off the already impressive spec list.
Sadly the Audi e-bike Wörthersee is just a prototype for now, so join us in crossing every appendage and digit that you own in the hope that Audi will make it a reality for the cycling masses.
