Fully Charged: Call of Duty: Black Ops III zombies revealed, plus the R2-D2 flying drone

Last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare might have introduced its own Zombies mode via DLC, but the mode has always been Treyarch’s specialty – and it’ll return with another large, full-fledged mode in this autumn’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

The Shadows of Evil storyline was revealed at San Diego Comic Con, spotlighting a film noir-inspired experience set in the 1940s and featuring the voice talents of Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Ron Perlman, and more. It’s unmistakably the familiar undead survival experience we’ve seen before, albeit with goofier twists and a BioShock-esque flair to the world.

Activision also announced the various special editions for the game, and the most notable – and absurd – is the Juggernog Edition, which comes with a working mini-refrigerator (really), along a set of drink coasters, art cards, a map, and some in-game perks. That’ll sell for US$200, or about £130. We suppose you’re not a real fan until you buy a branded mini-fridge…

Flying R2-D2 drone

Thought the homemade Millennium Falcon flying drone was cool? Try a full-sized R2-D2 one! This amazing recreation of the Star Wars droid comes from avid drone maker Otto Dieffenbach, who has made Doctor Who Tardis and Snoopy’s doghouse drones before, and features a quadcopter within the cylindrical design. Fantastic work, sir.

Batgirl DLC trailer for Arkham Knight

Already ripped through the meaty campaign for Batman: Arkham Knight? Worry not: Rocksteady plans to release steady content for the next six months, and will kick it off with The Matter of Family, a prequel story (that predates the entire Arkham series) featuring Batgirl as the lead. It’s her first playable appearance in the franchise.

We won’t say much more, given the huge potential for spoilers here (same goes for the trailer), but it looks like a smaller, more focused tale than Arkham Knight – a nice change of pace, even though we loved the main game. It’s due out for Season Pass owners on 14 July, otherwise you can grab it separately for just £5.79 come 21 July.

Vortex robot hits Kickstarter

Smart toys are starting to pop up all over the place, but the Vortex wants to make you smart as well. It teaches kids coding fundamentals via the companion smartphone and tablet app, plus lets developers build more elaborate games and activities for the little puck-sized robot.

Vortex just launched on Kickstarter yesterday and is already nearly a third of the way towards its £35,000 goal, with a backing amount of just £45 netting you one of the robots come October. If you’re looking for a robot that’s fun, but also customizable in both actions and appearance, give it a look.
