Deus Ex: Mankind Divided delayed six months for further polish
Square Enix's anticipated sequel won't be ready for February, unfortunately
Next spring was looking pretty hot for big new video game releases, giving us something to look forward to as winter started to thaw out. But one of the biggest games on the calendar just slipped much deeper into 2016.
Unfortunately, the game in question is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the sequel to 2011’s much-loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It was originally announced for a release on 23 February 2016 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but today the developers at Eidos Montreal said that shipping the game then would be premature.
“We’re confident and proud of the game so far,” writes studio head David Anfossi. “However, as we are now playing through the game in full we can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations, and refinement to meet our high standards. In order to achieve this, we need to move the release of the game to 23 August 2016.”
"We are sorry to disappoint you with this news, and also thank you for all of your support and comments," he continues. "This game is a huge part of our lives, and we don’t want to compromise on its quality."
Fair enough, we say: delays are always disappointing, but there’s nothing worse than releasing a botched game and then trying to clean up the mess after the fact. Early spring would have been a nice time to dive into some sleek, futuristic stealth action, but late summer will be quite fine too – and with a presumably better game, to boot.
