Olympus announces TG-820 and TG-620 Tough compacts
When the going gets tough, Olympus gets its hard-hitting pocket snapper production line going
Olympus has revealed two tough shockproof compacts to contend with the recently announced Canon PowerShot D20 and Pentax Optio WG2 and WG2-GPS – the TG-820 (pictured above) and the TG-620.
Both models can handle nippy temperatures up to minus 10 degrees and are shockproof thanks to their double-locking armour cases and metal lens barriers.
The TG-820 can happily bathe in up to 10m of water, is crushproof up to 100KG and boasts a 3in 1030k-dot LCD. By contrast, the TG-620 can handle up to 5m of water and has a 460k-dot screen.
Both snappers pack a 12MP sensor with 5x optical zoom and can record full 1080p video. Olympus’ iHS technology is also found in both models, allowing decent pictures in even low lighting conditions. Image stabilisation, HDR and a 3D shooting mode round off the specs nicely, and your snaps and videos can be played back on the big screen, courtesy of HDMI-out ports.
The Olympus Tough TG-820 can be yours for £270 while the Touch TG-620 will set you back £230. Both models will be out from the middle of February for some hard-hitting imaging action.
