Apple’s working on something big, and it’s supposedly a car
If you thought the Apple Watch rumours were crazy, wait till you hear about Cupertino’s iCar
If you thought Apple would never make anything larger than something you can carry, think again. Rumour has it Cupertino’s finest minds are beavering away on a… (wait for it) car.
Citing unnamed sources, Mac Observer co-founder Bryan Chaffin claims he is “certain” Apple’s developing on an iCar (that’s what we’re going to call it for now).
He reports that the company’s working behind closed doors on something in “vehicle development” that would give Tesla “a run for its money”. So we’re assuming it’s something that goes beyond just wowing people with its design.
He also reported that Apple’s been poaching people from Tesla, especially those who have had experience in working with cars.
“When I asked one of my sources flat out to put a percentage chance on Apple working on an actual car — rather than some kind of car-related technology — I was told, 80 per cent,” he claims in a quote on Business Insider.
But Chaffin added that he thinks the idea isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem – he claims the percentage chance of there being an iCar in the works is closer to 100 per cent. Even though the idea might seem bizarre to us, there’s been previous mention of the late Steve Jobs’ desire to build an iCar.
Obviously, this is something that we won’t be seeing in the coming months. Apple Watch itself is a prime example – so many years of rumours, and when it’s finally unveiled, its mass-rollout comes just months after. So, if the iCar is actually happening, we think it would take a few years to complete. Stay tuned for more if and when we hear it.
