Hacker ports Google Maps to iPhone as Apple lures in ex-Google developers
Hankering for a slice of Google's trusty Maps app? A little more tinkering and your wish could come true...
Unless you’ve been living in a Faraday cage over the weekend you’ll have heard that Apple’s iOS 6 Maps (which replaced Google’s own Maps app) has had more than a few teething problems.
If Apple’s mapping solution has left your house in the middle of a pond then you’ll be glad to hear that developer Ryan Petrich has managed to port Google’s Map app to iOS 6, albeit with bugs.
Unsurprisingly the port requires a jailbreak limiting it to the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4G (for the time being at least) and coincides with AppleInsider’s reports that Apple is looking to hire ex-Google Maps engineers to help improve the fledgling Maps service.
Here’s to hoping that Mr Petrich irons out the bugs soon before a host of iPhone users are lost and caught in any downpours.
